PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Wellness Workouts, specializing in fitness programs for seniors and those with physical ailments, offers a variety of services and programs so you can become, and stay, a stronger, healthier you! And while Karen specializes in senior fitness, she can also develop programs for anyone of any age looking for a safe, well-balanced, and successful fitness program.

Programs and services offered include:

  • Individual Wellness Programs (Personal Training)
Karen meets with you one-on-one to build a program that meets your personal goals and is tailored to address your individual needs.

  • Balance and Fall Prevention Classes
Three balance training programs, based on current physical capabilities, are available:
Program I is for healthy, active individuals such as those who hike, golf, socialize regularly, volunteer, are caregivers, or participate in regular or daily events. The goal of the class is to provide exercises that strengthen all body systems that relate balance including both physical and cognitive challenges.
Program II is for the "physically dependent" individual who might need more motivation toward a greater confidence and trust in their capabilities. These individuals usually have a chronic condition that has caused them to modify their movement patterns. They may have limited range of motion, hearing and vision challenges, and altered balance and coordination. Often individuals have had heart surgery, cancer, or a stroke with good recovery. Their speed and agility are often affected and most are concerned about potential falls. They frequently have been sedentary or only moderately active. The focus in this class is on ankle strength, range of motion, heel-ball-toe-walking, and confidence building.
Program III is for the frail elder and is designed to maintain or build strength in people who have lost some independence or have medical conditions which impair balance and mobility, but still maintain the ability to get up and down in a chair.  Parkinson's disease, stroke, dementia, and other debilitating conditions create a need to work on basic strength and balance systems.

  • Facilitated Stretching Classes
Facilitated stretching is one of several variations of stretching often used in physical therapy. It is an easy way to maintain or improve flexibility and coordination and helps prevent injuries so you can continue to enjoy your activity of choice! Most stretching techniques performed during physical therapy are done passively or as assisted exercises. With facilitated stretching, the emphasis is on active stretching, meaning that the stretcher does most or all of the work while the facilitator (Karen) monitors and directs the stretcher's activity. Facilitated stretching can bring about dramatic gains in flexibility in a very short time.

  • Exercise and Arthritis Classes
Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability. Baby boomers are particularly at risk as more than half of those affected by arthritis are under the age of 65! For those suffering from arthritis, the benefits of exercise are numerous: increased strength, flexibility, and mobility; proper weight management; and reduce stiffness and pain. Exercise improves energy level and increases a sense of well being and self suffiancy, thereby enhancing socialization. In class, goals are set for each person and individual attention is given.

  • Motivational Speaking
As a cancer survivor, Karen speaks frankly about how she was physically prepared prior to her cancer diagnosis which was critical in getting her through cancer treatment and recovery. She uses this message to inspire others to prepare physically for any health issue that might come their way. She uses humor and straight talk to educate people on how to stay healthy through nutrition and exercise. Her message is a great opportunity to motivate employees and friends to stay fit!

  • Home Health Care
Karen is certified by the State of Minnesota as a Nursing Assistant Registered and is able to provide Home Health Care. Her experience working with seniors and her passion for helping people stay fit with exercise and nutrition, along with her sensitive and compassionate ways, are a benefit to her skills.
